CDM1250 Ignition Sense Pin

Post by KG4LHQ »

Hello,

I just purchased this item thru Ebay to use on my CDM1250 and just wondering what I need to do to get the Ignition sense to work when it is off while cranking but turns back on and is on while in accessory on the ignition...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... %3AIT&rd=1

What is a good fuse spot to run to... I'm going to guess the same one that my CD player is connected too..

What changes to do I need to make in the software for this to work properly.

BTW, What will be a good inexpensive external speaker for this radio as when I'm running Code 3 I have a hard time hearing the speaker in the radio.
Thank You,

Pin 10 is the pin on the radio that you need to connect to. To get the radio to turn off while in crank, it's dependent on where you pull power from in the vehicle. Without knowing what kind of vehicle it is, I really can't tell you where to tap for power. If it has 4x4, that's usually a good circuit to pull from for what you want at least on Ford and Chevy vehicles.

Ok run your main power directly to the fuse block that is in the engine compartment. There should be a good heavy guage cable feeding it pretty much directly from the battery. You may have to remove a side support for the fender that comes off the firewall in order to get the cover off the fuse block to gain access to the heavy power feed to it.

Re-reading your initial post, I see that you also wan the radio to power in accessory. So your original idea of grabbing power from the switched source to your CD player should actually give you the operation that you desire (accessory and ignition). I usually just run them to the 4x4 circuit as it's pretty universally hot in just ignition. Your best bet is to check it out with a mutlimeter before you use it to make sure you have the right one. Most vehicles have a couple of fuses for the radio.

Jeekers: I've installed a lot of CDMs with ignition sense and never had to cut a fuse inside the radio. Just wire up an ignition sense line to Pin 10 and then program the radio for what we want it to do in response.

Where did I ever say anything about cutting a fuse inside the radio on a CDM? you dont cut anything on a CDM. They are also programmed for ignition sense by default.

They are not all set to IGN SENSE by default. Ive seen them set every way possible.

The latest ones also have many other settings incorrect as default, such as the backlight being off and MDC timing way off.

hmm ok. EVeryone I've ever seen has IGN sense active from the factory. I'll have to keep an eye out for that one in case I get a new one that doesn't respond to IGN sense
