Help with an HT1000

Hello all
I've been reading around on everything I can about programming the HT1000. My question is I read the instruction here on modifying a 2 to 16 channel. Could I not just obtain a code plug from a 16 channel like radio and load it into the radio?

no because the model number and serial number won't match. if you want to read your radio and send me the codeplug i'll alter it for you and mail it back.

You can just cut the 'stop' off the channel selector, obtain a new label and program the radio as a 16 channel, so what if the model numbers etc... change, I've done 5 of these radios this way, and the good news is that this model didn't suffer the GP300/P110 fate of a microprocessor change, as if you had a 2 channel, you always had a 2 channel, the HT1000 Jedis didn't suffer from this.
I don't even have reference to this in the service manuals either.
Besides, the serial numbers don't change as that is mask programmed, the only thing that will change is the model definition/number, but even then, not by much.
But you can't program a 'BN' model as a 'DN' model, the controller will NOT take the additional cp information, the type MUST remain the same.
IE:... H01RDC9AA3BN, 403-470 Mhz.
You MUST program the other radio as that model type.
Do NOT program a H01SDC9AA3BN either, the band split is wrong, and will cause ALL alignments to be way out of range, so you'd end up with a deaf radio that will probably not transmit either.
Keep the band splits identical, as well as model type, by the designators:
AN, BN, CN, DN....If your radio is a BN series, it must be programmed AS a BN model, or you will lose features if you move down a model type, as well as attempt to move up a model type as a DN series, the BN series do NOT have the QC-II features the 'DN' series have and will not work with earlier model types.
Just trying to save you some headaches before you get them.....
