Astro spectra question

Post by Mastertech »

OK, this is going to sould like a dumb question to the more experienced amoung you. I have 2 motorola spectra's. One is a dash mount 45 watt vhf astro and the other is a 110 watt vhf non astro spectra. Can I use the astro spectra parts to make the 110 watt radio into an astro? I am assuming that the MLM in the astro is specifically for a 50 watt radio and that this wont work. However, maybe im wrong.

if you rip all the guts and parts out of the 50w and put it in the 110w tray...you should change the s-record and realign as a high power radio vice a mid power....

someone here will probably have an s-record for a VHF high power astro mobile...

but that's another thread... some of this depends on the host/dsp and features in your 50w that you'll be carrying over to your high power....

The s-record is read with lab. But if these are your two radios and you plan on keeping them for yourself this is what I would do.

Remove all the internal boards from both radios except the PA and the interconnect board. Swap thjem between the two radios. The only thing that would need tuning at this point is the power ouput for the PA since you went from 50 to 100 watts and vice versa. Now the radios will function fine but the model numbers wont match the power rating but that really isn't important or needed.

Oh I should add that the control head type need to be the same as well. If they are not then you will need to do stuff with the s-records.

Thats sounds great. It seems like im in luck then because both of these radios are systems 9000 A9 control heads. I should have no problem with the alignemnt as I do them on othe radios at work. Two more questions though, The 50 watt radio is a 136 to 167 bandsplit and the 110 watt unit is 146 to 174. Will this difference in band slpt cause a problem. Finally if anyone can contact me through email I have one more question. [email protected]

Then you have a problem if they are different splits. The mid power PA is the same for both ranges but the hi power PA's are different for range 1 versus range 2.
