MTS2000 SIDETONE

Post by LT5BTFD »

I HAVE A MTS2000 VHF MODEL-1 PORTABLE W/ MDC1200. BECAUSE OF THE DELAY IN OUR REPEATER SYSTEM I WAS WONDERING IF I COULD ENABLE THE MDC1200 SIGNALING AND ENABLE THE SIDETONE BECAUSE I PERIODICALLY CUT THE FIRST PART OF MY TX OFF. IF I DO ENABLE THE MDC1200 SIGNALLING WHAT WILL IT SOUND LIKE OVER THE AIR SINCE WE DONT USE IT AND OUR RADIOS DONT DECODE IT? IS THERE ANOTHER WAY THAT I CAN ADD THE SIDETONE? ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Can't you just wait a second after keying before speaking?

I realize it's not easy-- our ham system has up to 6 links going at any given time and training our users to wait a moment so the folks on the other end can hear them has been a trying situation at best

That pre-signal is awfully annoying after a few minutes of use. I know that the Michigan dept of corrections has that on their VHF portables and the 1 second beep tone is defaulted to loudest volume. That there should count as cruel & unusual punishment.
