MT1000 spkr mic problem

I recently started using the spare speaker mic I had for my MT1000. It worked great for a couple days then the audio seemed like it worked when it wanted to. Turns out there's either a broken wire or a loose connection where the connecter screws to the radio accessory port. Can it be taken apart somehow to be repaired, or do I just have to buy another mic? This is a NMN6127C mic, not sure if it makes any difference.

On the contact side of the plug is a rubber gasket. Under that gasket is a tiny screw that holds the connector together. You might take it apart and try repairing any broken wire at the connector. That is a tight spot though to be sure.

First though I hope you took a pencil eraser to the pins on the mic connector as well as to the contacts on the radio connector itself.

Thanks for the help, I'll try that. Yep I have cleaned the contacts on the mic connector and radio with the eraser method, the audio still cuts out so it's probably a broken wire.

Not very common for those connections to break in my experience, i haven't had more than one or two that had a bad connection inside, and those were usually the ones with the badly cracked and broken strain reliefs that allowed more than normal play on the cable.

The good thing is the head end is really easy to open up, remove the lapel clip off the back and there is two body screws underneath and one at the back bottom. Then you can ohm out the cable, wiggle things around, etc, and find out where the problem is. I have also had some of them where the speaker was just shot, too much exposure to rain, etc.

You hit the nail on the head. The flex relief is all cracked and broken off on the one I have. It would TX good, the red light lit up on the radio and I could hear the audo loud and clear on the scanner, it only had the RX problem. I did get it working yesterday, thanks for the help.
