Dialing down power on Maxtrac

I understand that you can turn down the power on a Maxtrac via the service menu in RSS. I have a VHF Maxtrac that will often be running off batteries, so I'd like to turn down the power as low as is safe for the radio.

What is the lowest power range that you can set these radios to without causing problems?

Thanks!

Usally one half the rated TX power.

To get lower, you need a spectrum analizer and an amp meter to find the low power point that gives good power out, low current drain, and NO spurs.

Yep, Will is right.

On a high power 45 radio 20-25w setting is usually fine, below that and you need to make sure it's still clean.

On a low power 25w radio you can go to 10-15w. So if you need low power for battery operation and 10w is enough then go for a low power unit.
