gm300 codeplug probs

can any one expliane who to extend a 16 ch gm300 to 40 ch. i got the info off this site. I hex edited the mdf file but when i run the program in dos it tells me theres a codeplug error ( 58 ).
I read that the rss is now hacked and it can only be used on that radio.
The radio that I was going to do this to is a NEW 16 ch vhf gm 300.
can someone help me with this problem. What am I doing wrong?.
any help is so appreciated.

HI:
I generally do not comment on this information unless
you a highly skilled @ hex editing.
However, if you have not already reviewed this
data / this explains most
of the mods ( Not all ) http://www.batlabs.com/gm300.html
I would recommend reading it throughly.
Anyhow, Radius GM300's are [ Not ] a Picnic
to work on. Maxtrac 300's are much easier to
change around than a GM300, and you are
limited to the general 32 channels if you wish
to live with a factory set up Maxtrac radio.
Error 58 I am affraid is almost impossible to
recover from in most cases. Again depending
on your skill and availible Software, you might
be able to turn it into a Maxtrac, but to restore
your radio back to a 16 Channel Radio is going
to require some work.
If you give up, and if you wish to send the radio
to me, I can restore it back to normal for you.
Unless you can deal with the problems of checksums
and Hex editing, you will probably be pretty dissapointed.
I could write a Book on the issues of the GM300, and would
require more space than alowed here.
So hopefully some others may supply some additional
information as I am sure many more than just [ me ] have
been working on the problems.
I just feel keeping GM300's pretty much factory stock is
the way to go with them.

I love my GM300 and have done a few hex edits for it all with success.
I wrote him and told him that he needed to do the checksum, as well as a detailed explaination on the procedure which took up a lot of space in an e-mail and I am not about to write out here. With any luck he can fix the .mdf file and be back in business.
