Hi

Does the XTVA play nicely with IMPRES batteries? Say if I cruise around with the radio in the XTVA for three weeks, will the NiMH battery on my XTS3000 battery get cooked?

Not true. That's only if you want to take advantage of the smart charging features of the Impres system. Motorola themselves state that any of their Impres batteries can be used with any of their corresponding same chemistry 'regular' chargers. The Impres battery will act like any other NiCD/NiMH/LiON battery in that case...same charging/usage caveats apply as any other battery.

Motorola will be releasing the Impres version of the vehicle charger in Q4 this year. The vehicle charger will not recondition the battery, but will have an indicator to advise when recondioning is required. That way you can take the battery to a desktop charger at a time that you can have the battery out of service for a few hours while it goes through a recondition cycle.

If using the Impres battery in a non-Impres charger, you should put it in an Impres charger every week or two. That way the Impres charger can condition the battery as required.

He is driving round with it on charge for 3 weeks. What is the point of impres if you don't use impres equipment, It's like running a car on dirty gas. Sure it will run ok but in the end it wont peform as per the specs.
Might as well just buy a regular recoditioner and batteries.

You still get the longer warranty, conditioning capabilities on the charger, as well as the capacity readout that may get you a free battery before the warranty runs out. For someone who already has impres batteries, but wants the convenience of a convertacom, it doesn't make sense for them to go out and buy new batteries just because the convertacom doesn't do impres.

Cool. It'll probably end up on the IMPRES charger in the house every few days anyway, so I guess it won't be too much of a problem.

I was clarifying your post, as it read as if you cannot use Impres batteries in regular chargers at all. Of course it only makes sense to use the Impres batteries & chargers hand-in-hand, but the fact remains you don't have to.

Ok we were all taking extremes but I believe we now agree on all the basic facts.

Impres will work on any Mot charger(designed for that battery style of course)
However you will not get the full benifets of impress unless you run an impess only charging strategy.
