The MTX 838 was never made for 800MHz. You'll only find it in UHF and VHF.

What's the model number of your 838? If the fourth digit is S, it'll do UHF CB straight away. If it's R, but you'll need to hex edit the RSS.

I've got an MTX838 here that's 800MHz. It's never been touched with lab. Model is H01UCC6DB3AN.

Perhaps not in Australia, but here in Canada, it's the primary 800MHz trunked radio model on privacy plus systems...replaced in recent years by the MTX850/8250.

Only in the "B4" model. All others (B3, B5, B7) have the 16-position selector, regardless of frequency band.

What type of trunking does the MTX838 support? type II only?

Is it possible to get it to do more than 99 modes while retaining the continuous rotary? (radio is a H01RDD9DB4AN)

Cheers,
Matt

The "B3" model is Type I only...I've seen a codeplug for an "F3" model which also supported Type II.

All other models (B4, B5, B7) do both Type I & II.

I haven't seen one go higher than 99 channels with the continuous rotary, but believe there have been some posts in the past in which people claim to have done it.
