Slow booting Systems Saber III

Post by mancow »

I recently upgraded a model I systems saber to a III for a friend. RSS says it's a CON 7 version.

The odd thing is that it takes about 7 seconds to boot up. It's a blank screen and then it comes up and seems to be normal. When I hold the three orange buttons down on boot up it says 07 01 02 before the LCD test comes up.

Any ideas? Could there be a firmware mismatch between the main board and this display board? I don't recall what CON it was when it was a model I.

Unlike the standard Sabers, the systems models had a POST that was transparent to the user, unless they initiated this test with the keypad.

While 7 seconds does appear to be a bit long, 5 or less seconds is about right, depending on how it's programmed, and with what features as well.

If it's fully loaded, with all 255 channels, secure, phone, scan and encode/decode messages, then I can understand the 7 second delay.

I sold one that was decked out and it took forever to 'boot up', but always operated perfectly regardless.

Especially if it's trunking features are operational, then it's probably transmitting its ISW to the site controller and waiting for a response.

I hadn't thought about it being "full". All the others I've owned only had one or two zones but this one is almost completely filled so that makes sense.
