Looks like Motorola have launched an 800MHz TETRA mobile radio network in Australia, covering Sydney and Melbourne.

They've been sort-of trying to kick people off their Type II systems for a long time. Their last attempt was iDen, during the 90's, but most of their customers just laughed at them. TETRA's a far more credible option.

Bloody awesome. Too bad there's no coverage in Canberra.

Not much in Canberra though, just a whole lot of hot air and not much action. Tell me it's changed from 18 years ago!

Its :o. Customers in Sydney hate it and want to go back to 800Mhz!

And I thought UHF Fleetcoms was crap :o

Maybe it'll have 14 years of "teething problems" like the GRN.

But aren't TETRA systems encrypted so you can't listen to it on a scanner? Isn't that a BAD thing?

Hell no.

The people on radioreference probably think so, but I don't.
