Hi all!

My MTS2000 has a noisy, hoarse, relatively long and strong squelch plop:

This is first my radio, which has so strong and long squelch plop. Very annoy me!!!

Any ideas?

Is your receive freq. set to CSQ? That sounds like a typical jedi squelchtail on carrier squelch. Also, what's your receive hang time set to?

I try both. CSQ and PL. No visible differences.

I also already got info from some technician that this is hard reality named "JEDI"

Try 0 and 1 (100 ms). No visible differences.

Check your mute/unmute type.

It coult be the radio TX'ing is using the non-standard reverse burst/turn off code. Common on overseas ie icom yaesu, and kenwood radios that don't TX the proper turnoff code.

Make sure muting is set to only unmute on proper tone as Jim stated...

I try Standard and default position (don't remember which exact, but variant described as default in RSS manual).

No visible differences if I on channel with SQL as CSQ.

I do not use turn-off code (aka reverse burst) on transmiter, because I want listen many channels, which just doesn't have turn-off code or PL/DPL!

I want to got short SQL plop on clear carrier (no PL/DPL!).

GOOD LUCK! PL decoding is the only thing that will render that squelch tail silent.

I asking about decreasing plop duration and/or strength. I am not asking about make it completely silent - I am not kid and know something about two-way radio.

Just this radio have most long ang strength plop relatively to other Moto, Kenwood and other radios. For e.g. Moto WARIS's plop sounds much better - no so strong, shortly and always have the same duration (MTS2000'phop have variable duration).

the Jedi's have a different hysteresis on squelch than other series. You're gonna have to learn to live with it, or enable PL/DPL decoding on the channels/modes that are most offensive.

You may try adjusting the squelch values in tuner to higher levels, but this may not let you hear signals when they are weak. always record the old softpots before making adjustments, especially if you lack a service monitor handy to do a full proper alignment.

But what mean these modes in service mode (after pressing side button 5 times and would be passed model number, flash code info & etc.):

1 CSQ
1 TPL
1 DPL
1 TLS
1 THS
1 DTM
1 MI2
1 SEC

I can adjust something or this is just for information?

May be some guide exist - how works with radio service mode by pressing keys?

It puts the radio in test mode, so when the radio is 'on the bench' or being tested at a service monitor, it can quickly be tested for PL/DPL/etc modulation and functionality. You really can't change the squelch values at all in test mode. You can only test func. of a range of pre-set test freq's and tone deviation and button functionality.

You should be able to set the muting type from 'AND' to 'OR', this does affect the squelch action and if one radio is set to 'AND' muting, and the second is set to 'OR' muting, you'll hear the noise.

I make few experiments with two JEDI radios and find out that:

JEDI have long and strong squelch plop if receiver NOT closed on PL, but TX carrier contains PL.

In other combinations (TX carrier w/o PL; RX on CSQ [i.e. not closed on PL]), plop shorter/smaller, what more acceptable for me.

This is not a bug, this is JEDI "feature" %)
