Unfortunately, it's not just simply a cable. Connecting the Model 38 to an MTR2000 actually requires some interface circuitry.

If you search the board, you should find that this has been covered a couple of times previously.

The biggest problem is that the MTR2000 does not have separate inputs for PL tone and TX audio. Zetron makes an interface assembly to solve this problem, but they're are not particularly inclined to shrare the details of the circuitry, since they are getting around $200-$250 each for them. Their interface has a a small PCB attached to the system connector end that contains, among a few other minor functions, a summing amplifier to combine the Zetron's outputs into the MTR2000's Aux audio input.

While it is probably not the answer that you want to hear, pretty much everyone that has had to do this has found out that doing it without the actual Zetron interface is close to impossible, and doing it with the interface is easy.

I'm afraid that my personal reccomendation is to just lay out the money and buy the interface.

I recall that they were around the $225 mark when I bought some last year. The interface board can be ordered from Zetron or from Motorola; it has a Motorola part number beginning with "C".

Good luck.

It might be easier (and cheaper if you sell the Z38) to use a controller that combines PL and voice audio together.

The Connect Systems Flex LTR/Tone controller does this. And it's $399 new.

Well we use Zetron Model 38A-J and do not have to use Zetron's interface.
But I do not remember the details.
