Batboard

I have looked at the link below and have a few questions for those of you using a desktrac with an external controller:

Basically is it better to use the de-emphasized audio input and output of the desktrac or is it better to use the pre-emphasized?

Basically my question is if you are using a desktrac a low powered amateur radio repeater what connections did you use that yielded the best results.. I know everyone's audio taste is different but thought someone on here might have a general concensus that they could share with me before I make up my cables...
