I'm looking to buy a repeater and I want to get everyone's opinions on what's good and reliable. It would be used most likely, unless someone is feeling generous

Also, I'm looking for a tone panel...

Thanks!

Well you have to go with the Quantar/Quantro series. You can find them fairly cheap from radio disposal dealers.
A MTR is also a great machine.
R100 are cheap but crap in a busy site.
It's relative as to how much money you have to spend

I'm looking for something in the UHF band. Price isn't too much of an issue. I'd rather buy something that's going to last and wont crap out after a year, and just have to buy another one. Do you know any dealers that are good around the Philly area? Or anywhere in general?

If you don't want digital get a MTR2000.
I have one that spends most of it's time keyed at 100Watts and has never let me down

Uh-oh, N3IVK is going to get pissed at me...

Have you looked at non-Motorola stuff? I've been extremely happy with my Kenwood TKR750s and 850s, and supposedly the Vertex competitor is a very competent little unit too. You can get a 750/850 for around $1K, new in box, with a warranty and all.

Oh, and you don't need a tone panel. The 750s/850s can handle up to 32 tones (they strip and regenerate) - you can configure any input PL/DPL with a corresponding output PL/DPL.

That's good info to have. I'll keep it in mind.
