Motorola XTS3000R programing problem?.

Post by Firefighter »

I'm new to programming digital radios and I'm having problems getting my Uhf XTS3000R to receive digital apco 25 properly on RX only. The system I'm trying to program is a Uhf convential style repeater (Not Trunked) using Apco-25 and the problem I'm having is when I'm on a digital Apco channel and there's activity on the channel, the radios red light will blink however no audio will come out of the speaker. If I press the side button program for monitor when the red light is blinking, I can then hear the digital audio as the unit and/or dispatcher are talking untill they dekey. All I did when I program the radio was enter the frequencies and selected Astro mode, I did not change any setting. Can anyone advise me how to fix this problem?. Thanks.

Set the radio to "Mixed Mode" Receive. That way you will hear both Digital and Analog ops. on the same frequency.

OR, for digital not working, under the "Astro" tab, program the radio for Digital CSQ. It means they are using a different NAC and using digital CSQ will allow you to hear all digital ops, but not necessarily communicate with them. To talk to them, contact the radio system admin for it.

You'll have to go into astro options on the mode and select the squelch type. If you know the NAC enter that, but since you're receiving only, setting it as "Digital Carrier Squelch" will allow the radio to receive any digital transmissions.

The default configuration for a fresh digital mode is digital NAC 293 on TX and RX, which would be similar to DPL on a conventional mode, which is why you can only hear them when you press monitor.... because the "Private Line" needs to be defeated, aka the Network Access Code in APCO25/IMBE

If the agency is using mixed digital and analog; do you have to set the conventional PL to CSQ also to receive the digital TX? I tried the aforementioned ideas, but I'm only receiveing garbled digital sounds on digital RX. This is a conventional system without simulcast.

PL/DPL is for analog only

NAC is for digital.

If you're hearing garbled noise, it's either because you're outside of the coverage area, and if that's not the case, then they're using crypto.

He's getting decode when he punches monitor. Monitor defeats NAC checking for P25 just like it defeats PL/DPL for analog. Thus, he's got a NAC mismatch.

Yes, which is why I recommended "digital carrier squelch" which makes the radio discard the NAC without having to press the monitor button.

Thanks for all the replys. I set all the Apco 25 channels to digital carrier squelch and I can now receive all the digital channels without having to use the monitor button. Thanks.
