Motorola Saber III on eBay Info Needed

hi all, check this out for me and give me your advice.....
im in australia and sabers are very rare here, and i was thinking about getting this one till i saw that it has an error code "ERR 0 81" when the radio is switched on. i couldnt be bothered wasting all my time and money sending this thing back to the good ole USA if i did get it, so could someone tell me what the error code is and how it is fixed? thanks ppl. the link is below

That error would indicate a problem with the CORE proccessor. Don't know exactly what the suffix is. Given the error, and the dead battery, I'd say pass this one up.

Saw it the other day, and I came to the same conclusion.
Sabers aren't that rare here - SA Police and the ADF have gotten rid of thousands of them over the last couple of years.

That error is programming error if you turn off radio while wrighting CP.I had many sabers with that error and just reprogram with new built CP and was good to go.

awesome, i have seen a few around too. did they import them from the usa?

Err 0/81 is a checksum error, and easily fixed with a good codeplug.
It appears that the 'owner' doesn't have a clue when it comes to Sabers, and if cheap enough, it may be worth the cash to buy it......IF it's in a usable band split, and in OZ, that would be in the 403-433 range, but pretty useless in the U.S.
Most VHF models cover the low end of the band, 136-151, but there are many that are of the higher split as well, like 146-162.
That's my preferred band split as it gets you all the 2 meter ham freq's. as well as weather and public safety if you are so inclined.
Beware the Ebay specials advertising a Saber III but have swapped front shields with that of a Saber II with the 2K memory.
Ask LOTS of questions, and if the answers are: I don't know, or I can't test it.....best bet is to stay away from it, they are selling things they know nothing about.
