XTS5k voting scan ?

How does the radio need to be set up for voting scan ?
Do I need to have a SCAN item in the radios menu list and then select scan from the menu or does the radio do it in the background automatically when I select a channel set for voting scan via a particular scan list ?
I have 2 personalities set for scan and these are in scan list number 1 that is set up as VOTING SCAN.
I'm still having problems testing the feature out with 2 generators and a power splitter feeding the radio, the radio is properly flashed for voting scan so this isn't a question.
The help files in R8 cps are not very clear on setting up voting scan.

If its the same as the XTS3000 I would say you should setup the scan tab in each of the personality windows to be set for the corresponding voting scan list (i.e Voting Scan #1 in your case) that you want to use and set it to be an automatic scan, just make sure your voting scan lists are setup properly (i.e the right channels) and everything should be sweet.
The scan button/menu item is mainly used from conventional/talkgroup scanning I believe - never used it for a voting scan yet as I have all those setup to be an automatic scan.
HTH!

The automatic scan feature does not work if voting scan is selected in the xts5K.
already tried programming a brand new adio for autoscan on voting personalities and the newest CPS gives me an error message that automatic scan enable is not compatible with voting scan.
My problem is that I had one customer tell another customer, both are 3 letter govt. users BTW, that they didn't need to have a key or menu item set up to enable scan on the voting list.
So now you can see my problem, the radios are programmed up without a scan button or scan menu item.

Ahh ok interesting, My experience is only with XTS3k's so I cant be of too much help, bizzare that they work differently. Anyone else here have some handy info on vote scanning a 5000?
Hope you get it sorted

Strange - on the MTS2000, they specifically tell you to use auto scan.

I think the customers were using older analog radios before they began using the XTS5K. With these older radios they may have been able to use the autoscan feature but not now.
here is section out of the XTS5K's help menu item for scan:
Voting Scan Applies Only:
1. When the Conventional Personality that selects this Scan List has its Automatic Scan field disabled.
2. When ALL Scan List Member channels use repeaters within a Conventional Voting Scan wide-area network.
I'm just going to send them this section above ut of the help file so they know where they went wrong

I finally got my voting scan setup answer,
I was finally able to get my hands on one of the radios and programmed it up and played with it for a couple of hours.
It's different from what I remember other voting scan radios are.
In a way I like the XTS5K's voting scan operation.
All you need do is to set up a voting scan list, put your desired personalities in the list and of course set the individual personalities to point to the desired voting scan list just like a normal scan list.
You don't even need to have a scan button on the radio nor do you need to set AUTOMATIC SCAN on, which of course doesn't work in the XTS5K anyway.
The radio automatically scans all the channels in your voting scan list when you select a channel that's in the list, pretty cool.
I tried it on some local 2 meter ham channels and the radio went to the strongest repeater in the list without any operator intervention.
Oh yeah the original complaint was a constant error messages when they set the individual personalities scan select bits on the voting scan list, it turned out that the TX STEERING bit was not turned on in the SCAN LIST/ ADVANCED page as they were using different frequencies on their voting repeaters.
