I have a MTX838 UHF, top display, no keypad.
Continuous rotary, with concentric.
I am setting up for conventional.
I would like more than 3 zones and would like to use one of the SIDE buttons to scroll thru them.
With ver 6.05 and Lab I see no zone selection for the side buttons.
The lab buttons seem to be for the keypad model.
?
thanks

I don't think that radio has zones. I just picked up 2 of them & they seem to have all 99 chanels in 1 zone. Linda Blair chanel knob. LOL. Interested to know what happens though. GARY N4KVE

It does have zones.
I have it set for the concentric to select zones now, works fine but I can only select zone 1 and 2.

Interesting. So are there 49 freq's in each of the 2 banks? GARY N4KVE

I havn't seen how many I can do in each zone, lab says the highest is 101.
It came with a handfull of conventional and then trunking modes for a total of 72, all in zone one.
I "think" it will do 99ch from what I have read.
It will let me set if or at least 4 zones....

Well, unless you need the A/B/C rocker switch, you could go with 3, but that's the only thing I could think of.

I have not been able to get any of the buttons to do zone up/zone down. The only way seems to be with the switches either A/B/C or concentric.

You might be able to do it by reassigning the side buttons to "menu" buttons. I tried it once but gave up.
[edit]
I went in and looked. I did find a "undefined 0xB5" key in the button assignment section but I don't have a clue what that is. If you're not going to use the PTT or if you're going to use an external mic for PTT, you could reassign the PTT switch to "Zone Increment".
I don't feel like getting my RIB out and trying it (it's buried for moving) so you can give it a shot. Let us know if that works. You could also reassign the "man down" button to do the same thing. The only problem with that is "man down" was a side connector function for the tilt switch. It might also apply to the orange button. Maybe someone can shed a little more light on that one.

You can do zone select on the concentric or toggle on the top display models.
There's no way to assign zone to a side button.
Your limited to 3 zones, or two depending on your flavor. The continuous rotary makes it nice..

The best I could do with mine was 3 zones, any number of channels in each zone. Used the a,b,c switch.....
