I have a Motorola Saber III and I wish to use an Astro Saber speaker mic - part NMN6217B - NON public safety) on this radio.
Is this part compatible with the analog Saber III? because when its connected the PTT does nothing and no sound is output to the speaker, it still comes out of the radio speaker.
Would I be correct in assuming 1) the mic is incompatible or 2) the mic is defective?
I have another speaker mic (the square saber one - part NMN 6128C) and that works fine.
Thanks in advance!

spkr/mic...
The AS and S3 speaker/mic (non-PS) unit is one and the same
except for the antenna adapter/extender. I did actually check
this out on an S3 and an AS3 tonight.
Do a search. This has been discussed here several times.
The "incompatibililty" comes in the PS mic because the AS uses
a mechanical switching mechanism for activation in the AS ,where the
S3 uses an internal electronic sensing circuit. The "thingie" on the
AS PS unit that pushes the switch keeps the spkr/mic from fitting on the S3.

I've also tried Systems Saber speaker/mics on standard Sabers with no luck, and no joy.
I never dug into the differences as I almost never have a need for these things.
Speaker/mics and I do not get along very well....I prefer to clip the radio to my shoulder epaulet instead, thsi way I know where the radio is, and it's pretty hard to grab it and run off with it as well.
Not all that long ago, in Grayslake, Ill hamfest, a buddy had his Saber III stolen this way...the perp cut the speaker mic cable and snapped of the clip as he ran away with it.
The fellow got captured at the gate as several hams saw what took place and radioed the gates to watch out for this guy.
Pretty hard to lie about buying a radio with the accy. connector still attached and the owner following with a speaker mic with a cut cable.
I wish I had an AS to test this with, but all I have is a Systems Saber speaker mic without a connector(it's used as a spare programming cable).
