At first glance I thought that I couldn't swap the control heads between a CDM1250 and a 1550. But after poking around while programming, I see that there is an option for the full-featured head (1550) on the 1250's codeplug.
The reason why I want to do this is because I have a problem with the 1250 I use as my repeater transmitter on GMRS. I know that the 1550 works fine, but it is currently mounted in my car. I wouldn't mind swapping the two, but I'd like to keep the functionality of the 1550's control head if possible.
So before I jump into "experimental" mode, I figured I'd ask away here first.
And while I'm at it, maybe someone would be able to help me figure out the existing problem. The 1250 doesn't seem to broadcast the PL tone that the controller is feeding it via the Accessory Connector. I've checked the options in the CPS multiple times, and checked them against the settings for the 1550 which definitely works. If I can solve that problem, I won't have to swap the radios at all. Suggestions?
Thanks!

Last I knew you couldn't stick a 1250 head on a 1550 and vice versa. Radio comes up and says 'WRONG HEAD'.rdunajewsk wrote:At first glance I thought that I couldn't swap the control heads between a CDM1250 and a 1550. Feed the controller audio in the flat audio input (pin 5) and see if it works then. The external mic audio is typically high passed so PL tones wont pass through it.

Thanks for the reply, I guess I should focus on the real problem that I mentioned. The controller is connected to the following pins:n1pfc wrote:Last I knew you couldn't stick a 1250 head on a 1550 and vice versa. Radio comes up and says 'WRONG HEAD'.

5 - Flat TX Audio In (PL Tone)
7 - (Audio Ground for both audio sources)
2 - Mic Audio In (Voice)
3 - PTT In
I know there is the option for which TX audio to use, either external mic, flat tx, or both. I thought that was my problem, since only ext. mic was selected, so I change that to "both". Still hasn't solved the problem. And since I know it works on the 1550 with the same settings, I'm trying to figure out if it's a radio problem, programming problem, or maybe something that can be flashed (the 1250 has an older firmware -- don't remember which version off the top of my head).
The controller is the Comm Spec TP-3200. I'm using a GM300 to receive and the 1250 to transmit. I know that the controller is decoding the input tone and is putting out an output tone on pin 5. I've tried moving the connector slightly to see if its a bad connection on the pin, and all seems stable..
Any other ideas? Perhaps I missed something in the CPS?
Thanks.

I correctly understand that inpossible force CDM1250 work with CDM1550 control head?
