M1225 Can't read code plug Radio not active

Radio works great...just can't read the codeplug or program. Checked all the obvious, jack is OK, have the latest 4.0 Windows Software, cables and Rib ok, 5 volts at the data pin??

The software stops and displays Radio is not active. Strange..after you attempt to read the codeplug the radio locks up..can't change channel or any other function until the power is turned off and then back on. Happens every time you try to read the radio????

Anyone run across this problem???

Just pulled an M1225 from service yesterday exhibiting the same problems. Tried to reprogram Channel 2 to the customer's spiffy new FCC-licensed channel (threats of $10,000 forfeiture notices spurred him to agree with us that he should comply forthwith) and try as I might I could not force the radio to cough up the codeplug. Got the same error trying to force a known good codeplug in it as well. It's going up on the bench this afternoon for further diagnosis, I'll post what I find and perhaps it will send you in the right direction to getting yours fixed.

OK... seems it was the battery in the RIB. Swap in a brand new one and see if that works...

It's quite peculiar as I was able to read and write an SM50 and Radius Mobile after I ran into being unable to talk to the M1225. I guess the M1225 is a bit more picky about the voltage in the RIB than the other models here.

Ps. The "radio not active" error is the computer not talking to the radio.

At least that was simple. I did go back and double check all connectons and power at the rib. I don't beleive you need power on the ribless cables but I tried using the RIB with battery & power supply Plus the ribless that works with the other M1225's that program with no problem.

Still on the quest to find a fix!

Ah, you've got a ribless cable.

I'd try to check it out with the actual RIB plus a regular cable if possible, I would venture to say that your ribless cable got hosed somewhere because the computer is just not seeing the radio.

Well, as I posted we have tried both RIB and Ribless to no avail. I have other M1225 units and they can be read without any problem. Also tried dumping in a codeplug but it will not accept and replies "Radio Not Active"
If we had any Rib or cable problems then we would not be able to read the other radios???

I must have misunderstood you. I thought you had only tried a ribless cable with a rib, but clearly there is something amiss with the radio if the rib+cable combo works fine with other radios. Sorry I can't be of more help to you :(

I've seen that before, and it turned out to be a board-level connection issue inside the radio. Hopefully yours is suffering from something else, because I have yet to find a solution to mine. Has the radio been dropped, kicked, hit, or similarly jarred to possibly cause connections to break on the board?

Utterly curious- what's the model# from the tag on the unit?
