unusual error message when reading device

ecec000c: Couldn't CreateStream on the device
this is the error code when I try to read one astro saber. using M rib setup and regular computer that i have used to easily read and write xts, astro spectras and other astro sabers. but now i am getting this issue.
When i hit read with cps 5.02, it does the typical 1CSQ on the screen and then I get the error message.
Can anyone advise? thanks!
