XTS5000 FPP Questions / Clarifications

I'm looking for somebody who has experience witht the XTS5000 FPP option to clarify a few things. This is the deal, I have two VFH XTS5000 Mod III that I use while on duty as a wildland firefighter. I would very much like to add the FPP option, but am getting confilicting information from mother 'M'. The radios currently have the following options - H38, Q806, Q173, Q361, H14, Q667 - flashcode 500008-000484-6. I use the SmartZone option as well. Motorola tells me that FPP is NOT compatible with trunking features and that you can't have both in the radio. I understand that you certainly can't program trunking info from the panel and I have no desire to do so, I'll use the CPS for that, but Is it possible to have a Smartzone enables radio that also has FPP so that conventional channels can be front panel programmed and trunking options, talkgroups, etc can be changed with CPS. I'm currently only using about 90 modes so the limitation of 240 is not a problem. Under normal circumstances I only need 1 zone or maybe 2 of 16 channels each of programmable conventional channels.
Anybody who has experience with the FPP option and a trunking enabled radio - I need some REAL information.
Also as I side note I have been told that there is also an FPP option for the XTS2500? I need the same information for the XTS2500
Thanks
Rick

there is a flashcode "in the field" that supports what you are looking for (smarzone/fpp conventional)
you are not going to be able to purchase it from motorola.... it's just simply NOT OFFERED to the public.
yes, the FPP flash is available for the 2500, but i have yet to have one in my hands to play with it - i suspect it's the same/similar as the 5k

I'm getting mixed signals from big "M". Tech support told me that the two options (Smartzone and FPP) are incompatible and cant be in the same radio, meanwhile I have a price quote and part # from "M" to purchase the flash upgrade? Not sure who to believe.

I can gaurantee you that you can have H38 Smartzone and Q52 FPP for conventional in the same radio.

Also, just an FYI... You won't be limited to 240 channels like you stated in your post just by having Q52 FPP. You'll have the full 850 channels that the 5K offers.

I have the 2500 with FPP, but without Trunking/SmartZone. I can only advise that the channel capacity did decrease from 512 to 256 after it was flashed but that is all that I can offer.

caveat:
you will have 850 channels with H38/Q52
you will *NOT* have 850 "FPP-able" channels
you'll have 250 (i think, offhand) - the rest can either be slaved to a single conventional personality or set up as a trunking personality.

Looks like a good submission to Webster for their next addition.

Actually the price quote I have is for the Q53AB option? Is that the same as the 52? I have heard that the 53 required the dongle, and then I have also heard that this is not true anymore.

Last I heard, there are two Q52's
-FCC Compliant version (needs the "key" like the JT1000)
-US Government verison (does not need the key)
Chances are, it will be the FCC verison, unless your a Fed agency or can convince them it will be used in the Fed enviroment in which the agency may have to order it for you (highly doubt).

Interesting thread. I was not aware that there was such an option on the newer Asto portalbes. Any chance it is possible to add this to the Astro Saber series?

Nope.
Q52 is the fed option. Q53 is the "retail" option that requires the dongle and should be available to any purchaser.

No. Only XTS5000, and apparently recently, XTS2500.

More Questions about FPP

I'm still getting the run-around from Big M regarding FPP and Smartzone. Product group is now telling me that you absolutely cannot have a radio that does H38 Smartzone and Q52 FPP (although they did mention that the software was in the works to make that happen but is not yet available). I'm telling them I know of radios that are currently working that way and am sure the option is available. Can't seem to get the same story from any two people. First I'm told yeah no problem, then I'm told no way, then I'm given and FO to order, then I'm told no way again?
NEED HELP: Anybody out there who has a functional XTS5000 that does both H38 Smartzone and Q52 FPP please send me Flashcode and or Serial # so I can get the information and get the stuff ordered. Any help would be most appreciated! Desperatlely need to get these things in service with FPP.

As Batdude stated earlier in this thread, Moto does not offer FPP and SmartZone together at this time.
There is an unofficial flash that does support both options but Moto WILL NOT sell it at this time.
BTW, thanks Batdude. The info was right on the money
