hello i have a mcs2000 model 1. when i try to clone it with cps r01.10.00 i get the message "radio and codeplu feature set are different cloning cannot continue. what does this mean and how can i fix it. any help would be appriciated.

By cloning you mean you are trying to take the programming from one radio and "clone" it to another radio correct? Both radios must have both the same model number and same flashcode to start with.

well the only thing diff in the model number is the letter B at the end instead of A. i can not find a letter B in the model muber breakdown chart.
i dont even know if mine is the right mod number. when i read it i can only get the model number. it doesn't show the serial number. and if i try to read the radio it gives me this message "image has ptr field 7 which references block at address 16615620 with absblkid 17230432, but no layout for this block exists" i am trying to dump a codeplug into it from another model 1 radio. the code plug that is in the radio that i have says its a model 3. but it has a model 1 control head.

there is a huge difference between a model 1 and 3 and the heads are not interchangable. but the cps is not lying to you, the model numbers are just different. open 2 engines of the cps and read each radio and drag & drop the info from the original radio into the new one. there is no way around fooling the cps into cloning that if models are different or if the flashcode is different.

well i cant drag and drop because the codeplug i am trying to dump is an archive file i got from a friend and when i try to read the radio i am wanting to program it gives me this message "image has ptr field 7 which references block at address 16615620 with absblkid 17230432, but no layout for this block exists" i can read it with the dos program but not the cps. but i dont have a dos codeplug.

Theoretically, if one had access to Lab, one could force-feed a model I codeplug into a model III radio, and vica-versa.

or just read the good radio with no pack/unpack, disconnect the host radio, connect the clone-to radio and then write that same unpacked cp directly into the other radio...

whall-a

cloned

That is if it has pre-tool proof firmware, which the MCS series NOW has.

well what is pack and unpack. and just to make my self clear. i only have 1 radio. i am not reading one and trying to dump it into the other. i simply have a codeplug that i am trying to out into the 1 radio that i have. i am starting to think i dont have the technology to fix the prob.

and just one more question. i have a radio that looks just like the mcs2000 model 1 but it does not have the alphanumaric display.just numbers. and it says nextel by motorola. i have not been able to find out any info on it and the mcs 2000 software will not read it. but i am more interested in getting my other one up and running first.

you can still drag and drop from the archived file, just open it and open the codeplug from your radio and drag and drop the files. it seems like you are new to programming so stay away from lab, you'll end up with a doorstop.

well i am not really new to programming i do it alot. but this is my first time with the mcs. and my first time with a windows program for programming. but here is my prob. the cps will not read my radio. only the dos program will read it. the cps keeps giving me this message.

"image has ptr field 7 which references block at address 16615620 with absblkid 17230432, but no layout for this block exists"

but the cps will open the codeplug i got from a friend of mine.

So are you saying you can read the radio with MCS2000 RSS but CPS does not work. If so can you take the saved RSS archive file and open it in the CPS?

yes i can reads it with rss.but i have saved the rss file and tried to open it with the cps and it gives me the same message as if i was trying to read the radio. i would love to drag and drop like everybody says but i cant get the codeplug out of my radio with the cps to drag and drop to.maybe i am just missing what people are trying to tell me. but i cant drag and drop to a codeplug i cant open.. :-?

Problem number one, your CPS version is too old. The error you are getting when you try to read your radio indicates that.

Problem number two, the codeplug your friend gave you isn't the same model number, and is very likely a different flashcode...that's why you can't clone it in.

You need to either upgrade your CPS to a later version which is compatible with your radio, or get your hands on an identical codeplug so you can do the cloning.

Actually the guy pulled the s-rec from the radio. IT IS TOTALLY MESSED UP. Obvious hack job, it has two different model numbers within it and no serial number, etc. I told him he needs to find a good s-rec and jam it in.
