I know it's bad to post a non-motorola question as my first post but I just bought a Kenwood TK-2107 off of ebay. I didn't realize that it comes with a 220v charger until I got this email from the seller (it is coming from overseas):

hi
Ths for your swift payment! Before i sent the radio to you,i have one question, because the
charger i provided is 220v just as the description shows, but as i know,in USA,110v charger will be suitable,or the charger will be fired, but please don't worry,i have 220v-to-110v transformer that will make the 220v chargr work in the 110v system,if you want it,please just pay anther GBP5.50,then i will send the radio with transformer to you!of course,it is just my suggestion,if you don't need it,i will send the radio to you at once!
waiting you reply!thanks for your help!
Best wishes!

Do you guys think I need to spend the extra money or can I get a cheap adapter from Radio Shack? I have no clue about this stuff (obviously). Thanks!

Yes, you will need a 110 volt to 220 volt transformer so the charger will work. The step-up transformer is available at even Radio Shack. You do not need a high powered transformer, something like 20 watts or so, often used for electric shavers.

Some of the China knockoff chargers have been comming with a trandformer that is center tapped secondary and we tried to use the full secondary and four diodes and the transformer would not work properly on 110 volts.

Wound up using an external wall wort transformer.
