If you want something fairly cheap you could use a digital voice recorder that has VOX recording capability. You can get them at the big box electronics store...less than $100 for cheap models, a couple hundred for fancier ones. You might have to look a little harder for one that has a line in jack, which you'd want. The other problem might be powering them...they're designed to run on batteries, so I'm not sure if they would have an external power jack or not. The kind designed for news reporters and such would probably meet all of the requirements, but they're going to be quite a bit more expensive than the consumer grade stuff.

You should also setup a LINE output from the radio to the recorder so any recordings are not affected by the Volume control or ambiant noise.

What radio are you using?
