MDC kenwood and Motorola

Alright I searched old posts and can't find anyone having the same problem...
The county just switched on their MDC signalling as a repeater key, we have a mix of kenwood mobiles with aftermarket mdc boards and HT1250 portables. What I have noticed is when a motorola radio keys up I can see the PTT ID if it is a motorola radio but if it is one of the kenwoods it doesn't show, is this something I have programmed wrong in my radio or will it just not show up either way?

A majority of the MDC enabled boards in kenwood radios, as far as i have seen are TX only. They ONLY TX MDC packets, they do not decode. Unless the board actively RXs and decodes the MDC, the radio has nothing to display...and consequently displays nothing.

Do the aftermarket boards decode MDC?

The cimmaron boards only encode MDC1200.

mikegilbert,

I assume you are referring to Kenwood radios with the CIM-1000K boards and not all radios with cimarron boards. I have two vertex vx-4200 radios that do both encode/decode mdc1200. I am using he VMDE-200 board from Cimarron and it works quite well.

but regardless if the kenwoods decode or not shouldn't I be able to decode their mdc signal on my Ht1250?
