HT750 Draws 44mA -- While Turned off!!!

It's dead otherwise. When power is applied (and if the power switch is turned on) it will draw 150mA for a few seconds, then drop back to 44mA. I have *three* radios in-shop all doing the same thing. No beeps, no lights, nada.
I hope someone's seen this symptom before . . . .

what color is the gasket around the contacts? is it orange? make shure it has the contaminant kit installed on it.

Looks like a bad firmware!Try to flash it with the lab flashtool,with new firmware.

Okay, all three gaskets are blue or black. The one with the orange gasket doesn't do this.
Think it may be firmware? Okay, I'll go along with that. But isn't the 'Lab Flashtool' one of those forbidden, "If you have this Moto will hunt you down and kill you" kinda things?

The black battery seal ones are the oldest, the blue is the newest. Ask yourself this question: If the firmware is at fault, why didn't these three units show this problem earlier?
I'd be willing to bet a quarter that the uP's not booting, and the first place to check for that is the crystal that provides the clock for the uP.

I concur. The fault is likely the 16.8MHz reference oscillator. There were several different versions of the crystal (ie: physically different), and none of them are available as a field replaceable part. I've been able to replace the two-legged ones with crystals from a Motorola DPC650 cell phone...the other rectangular surface-mount units I haven't touched.

you might be best flat rate them back to motorola and they will come back with the newest firmware and upgrades.

When the crystal is bad,the lab flashtool will not go into bootstrap mode!

The 16.8Mc clock comes up on power up, then goes away. While it's on, it is the same level as a 'normal' one. Looks like the xtal should be okay.
