Hi everyone,

Does anyone have recommendations on what the best rubber duck antenna would be for VHF in the 154mHz range? I know they are all a compromise, but if you have some recommendations I would appreciate it. The length doesn't much matter, although I know there are mechanical limits on the amount of stress the attachment point to the radio will take. The radio is going to be in a pouch, clipped to the outside of a camelback.

On another note, does anyone know if the telescoping antennas for handhelds make a great difference in TX/RX for VHF? If so, could you recommend one?

The radios are going to be used primarily in the mountains near Lake Tahoe.

The Comtelco PEXH150-SF at 10.5" comes to mind. It is a base loaded 1/4 wave antenna, covering 150 to 160.

There is a full lenth fied tunable flexable whip with a BNC connector that would require an adaptor to the SMA male in the radio. Much less bandwidth.

An adapter is a *bad* idea for anything used in the field. Shearing that off the top of an MTS is not a good thing.

As Doug said, the wideband whip is the way to go. All of my /\/\ VHF portable gear has the wideband whip on top.
