Does anyone know of any repair shops in the Denver metro area? I have a Maxtrac 300 and it turns on, but does not pick up any transmissions (I have the frequencies programmed). Thanks.
Also, to anyone who responded to my 2005 post on this topic, my apologies, I lost my e-mail shortly thereafter.

Do you get a beep when it turns on?
Do you get squelch noise when you press and hold the monitor button down for 2-3 seconds?
If no to these, Is the front speaker connected?
Is there a jumper in pins 15 & 16 if it is a 16 pin accessory jack?

RF Guy,
The version of the Maxtrac that I have allows me to pick up the National Weather Service transmissions. When I programmed the frequencies and then turn it on, I am able to hear them but the reception is not always the greatest, sort of like I am futher away from the source than I actually am.
So to answer your questions, I would say yes.

That said that it does receive the weather, it could be:
1 shorted protection diode(s) on the RX input
2 bad RF amp transistor
3 bad antenna switch ( on the PA board)
Those problems I can repair here, if you do not have the tools/test equip.

Sorry to use you as an example, but, sounds like a standard customer complaint
turns on, but does not pick up any transmissions
Ask a couple of questions and;
I am able to hear them but the reception is not always the greatest
This is different than not picking up anything.
Is it ever clear? Did you programm the right frequncy? It it off by 5 kHz?

RF,
That's fine.
I have two radio's next to the Maxtrac, and turned all three to the same frequency. My Uniden BC-760 was the better of the three, my Uniden BC 9000 XLT was the next and the MaxTrac was the last. I did check the frequency programmed and since I am able to program 16 channels in it, I programmed all of the local NWS frequencies. In each frequency the 760 was the best followed by the 9000 and then the Maxtrac. Both the 760 and 9000 were available (no longer sold) over the counter as scanners not using much wattage.
