Hello all, just a question, did nick make any xts2500's? If so how would you tell if it was one?

Okay, came accross a radio yesterday that had a tag in place of the serial number that said something to the effect that this radio was not certified for use in the us. But it is a xts2500 and the serial number ended in abc1234 and it just looks like a parts built unit.

Sounds like some rare alpha radio that probably has prehistoric firmware and an acompanying impossible to get CPS. The 5000s were the same way, with serial numbers in the same format.
Not certified for use in the us because the design process is still ongoing...
In what physical way does it look "parts built"? did you check the firmware or flashcode?

Checked the flashcode, it is not the nick code, but the radio must be a alpha or beta test radio, I just read it and saw the serial number, and it reminded me of the nick story I read on here. I thought maybe I had found out what M did with the radios that people did send back, but the test radio is more likely considering it came to us as a loaner/demo from motorola.

As far as Nick Deluca radios...
First, as was stated above, he made mostly XTS3000s and Astro Sabers. The XTS5000 was just coming out at the time. I have heard he made a few but I have never seen a "Nick" XTS5000. The XTS2500 is after Nick's time.
He only made radios with specific flash and firmware. Obviously the flash can be changed so you have to look at the firmware if you are suspect.
Also, some, but not all, of his radios had his initials as the three letters in the serial number.
Check the newbie guide for more specifics...
