After some gracious help from Elroy (Thanks!), and some parts replacement by my friendly neighborhood service center, I recently got a couple of surplus Saber IIs (8K) up and running.

I assume that the autodial on these is DTMF. I am trying to configure it to dial the three digit DTMF access codes used by our area's hospital ER radios. While I think the codes were set up properly in RSS (number only, no access or hang-up codes), I can't seem to get the radio to transmit the data.

I realize that we are most likely talking operator error here, but any help would be appreciated.

It probably IS operator error. Getting the autodial to work properly takes a little training. And since I don't have a Saber II or III around here to use as a guide to walk you through it, you really should get the operator's manual from the big M. It will give you clear, step-by-step instructions.

You can also play with the feature on a simplex channel with another radio monitoring, and you will figure it out. I can tell you that when you go to the autodial menu, it prompts you to use the preprogrammed access code or manually change it. If you want to use the preprogrammed code, tap the PTT button and it'll send it. Tapping the PTT is what prompts the radio to send access codes and also the number to be dialed itself. And sometime you will have to press the SELECT key, too.

Like I said, play with it and/or get the manual. The manual is well worth the trivial cost.
