'Merging' Radios?

Post by fogster »

Is it possible to take an AS3 with too old of a host/DSP for IMBE, and an AS1 that does IMBE, take some parts out and end up with an AS3 that does IMBE? (I can handle the S-Record requirement.)

Would it work, or will taking parts from an AS1 and putting them into an AS3 not work?

Yes, like i've explained before, you can drop in the command (vocoder) board that has the newer IMBE firmware and then retune the radio and you have your imbe astro saber 3.

Before you do anything, back up the original AS1 S-record just in case something goes wrong. You probably know this already :D

Good luck

I'm not sure I've ever asked about the idea of swapping vocons from another radio. In particular, I wasn't sure whether it would work going from an AS3 to an AS1.

Are both the host firmware and the DSP stored on the vocon/vocoder? (I've never actually taken an ASTRO rig apart.)

The firmware and DSP versions are both stored on ICS on the controller board. Its one board. Plug and play. Just like windows....
