FLASHcode question

I have an MTS2000 on the way, and in the name of getting to use it faster I'm having my friend who has the same model number send me his codeplug, which I will read and change to my programming so that I can dump it on my radio and get talking.

QUESTION:
If friend's FLASHcode is different than mine, and I enable something that my FLASHcode does not support, will I create a paperwieght, or will it just get pissed and give me an error, in which case I'll just fiddle with the codeplug?

Also, does anyone know where I can find an article on what FLASHport is? I'd like to have a better understanding of it.

Thanks all.

Chris

FLASHport is a method of upgrading a radio to have additional features and updated firmware used in the MTS/MCS, Astro, and Astro25 product lines.

If the flashcodes vary, you will not be able to clone from one radio to another. Getting his codeplug is good for nothing more than to play around with.

not quite true as if you are using CPS you can copy large amounts to the new radio using the paste function, If the flash is different it will just show as an error which can be deleted or altered to suit.

I've had very bad luck with copy/paste or drag/drop actually working properly.

That's odd, it's worked for me every time, even some between Astro and Astro25. If it comes across a bad value it just doesn't copy it, and throws an error, but keeps on trucking with the rest of it.

Tried to drag/drop between an AS3 and an XTS3... 250 conventional personalities, 35 zones, 10 scan lists. Ended up with a codeplug that would make the XTS reboot when I selected certain modes. Build from scratch, no problem (so far).
