I have programed in 16 scanlists in my HT1550-XLS Firmware revision R05.09.06 and occasionally have trouble with it actually stopping on a busy channel. In some cases the scan list is assigned to several conventional personalities. I have scan list edit enabled so I can modify each scan list in the field. The inability to always detect traffic on a channel in the scan list is causing me to not trust the radio and manually scan between the different channels. Sometimes if I turn the radio off then back on it clears the problem, this does not always work though, and it seems to eventually come back. I am wondering 1) if anyone else has experience with this and 2) if there is a later version of firmware which will fix this issue?

I have not seen that problem with any HT1550's I take care of. The newest version of firmware is R05.10.05. You could first try that and see what happens.

Are you using any signaling in your receive (i.e. QCII, MDC, etc..)?

I believe that you have the same problem most poeple have with the scan list edit feature. That feature works like SH(*%@. The only way to fix a screwed up scan list is with the CPS. The only thing that works good about this feature is the priority channels. If you have the CPS its easy if not $$$. I have several of the HT1250/CDM1250 and I like them but just not that feature.

No signaling (unless it accedentaly got enabled). Yes the priority feature is nice. Reliable user setable scan lists would make it a great radio. Are the release notes for each version after R05.09.06 available? I'l like to know if Motorola did or did not (attempt to) fix this problem. Where can I get a copy of the latest firmware and how do I put it into the radio?

I also have the HT-1550XLS with the red battery and noticed if you change a personality from Wide to Narrow or vise versa via the edit mode on the radio it doesn't take until you turn the radio off and back on again. All other settings including frequency and TPL / DPL change fine except for the channel bandwidth with out a reboot.

This only applies when you edit the scan list and it applies to all CDM/HT/PRO units. If you read the radio after you have messed with the scan list you will see the mess you have done. It may have 1,2,10,25,3,6,and so on. I have tried time and time again to fix it from the front panel but it has never worked,so I have given up on this feature and don't use it anymore.

Can the scanlist be "messed up" the latest version of firmware?

Is it constrained to lists which have had personalities added then others deleted?

Does this problem also exist in the PR400?

Yes, no matter the firmware. If you could learn to live without this feature is still a very good radio. I plan to replace my JT1000 government mode with one of the HT1550XLS's as money allows. I'm not sure about the PR400?

Interesting??? I have two, one vhf & one uhf and have not had this problem although I have not specifically monitored for this. I'll have to check this issue out...

I notices something queer today, when listening to a broadcast on one of my favorite repreaters, the LED was not flashing nor was the RSSI LCD glyph on, nor did scan want to stop at that repeater channel. The signal was full quieting, so there was no question that the signal was "good enough". Even though the scan list of the conventional personality has itself and "selected" in it, I could only listen when scan was disabled. Enabling scan effectivly muted the radio.

So I did some investigation. I found that the LED and RSSI indicators are qualified by some audio in the transmission. 1.4KHz of dev (over and above the 500Hz of subtone) of 1Khz test tone is required to get the LED to flash and the RSSI indicator to come on (and presumably the scan to stop). On another channel, which is set to CSQ, it needed 1.7KHz of 1KHz test tone to unsquelch the audio, which seems odd. In all cases I has a full quieting carrier signal, -20dBm into an antenna nearby.

So now the question, is this normal for the HT1550 radios to require audio the qualify CSQ or 1) is my radio broken, 2) is my code plug (version 03.04) broken, or 3) does my programming have a bit set that I don't want set?

So, now that I have a recharged battery, I check again and the disturbing new CSQ "feature" has gone away.

So, the scanning (and presumably the "must have audio to qualify the CSQ") problem is known to happen when the battery is low.

Still, the question remains, is this a problem specific to this radio, a programming error or a design flaw.
