i have a motorola question im looking for a motorola 800 radio the one that looks exactly like the older mt1000 radios, are the radios in the 800 mhz do they and can they have the type 2 tracking or are they to old.

I believe the model that does type 2 is the MTX 810 Classic. They are cheap & easy to find. I have 6 myself that I use on simplex for races etc. They cost $20 each 5 yaers ago. GARY N4KVE

There are several models, MTX800/810/820S...the MTX800 is very basic, and is a Type I trunking radio only, no conventional at all. The MTX810 is a little more versatile, with conventional capability, and I believe Type II capability although I can't verify that at the moment. The MTX820S is definitely Type II SmartNet capable, with conventional as well.

I just recently programmed a MTX810 Classic which was programed for Type 2. I just set it up with coventional 800. Only six channels with no scan but the radio works great and best of all it was free. Many people are just giving away Genesis stuff rather than deal with the hassle of selling it.

I've got a number of MTX810s, some with a DTMF keypads & beltclips, but most without. They work quite well on simplex, and make especially good data radios, as well as control receivers, when interfaced with the 'stuff'.

I also managed to acquire a number of MTX800s & MTX900s. The 800 won't do conventional, but are good for housing parts, knobs, etc.. The 900s will do conventional & some trunking, but do not easily modify for the 900 MHz Ham Band.

All in all the Genesis gear still works well & is quite reliable, but /\/\ has long given up supporting that line, so parts for the radios can be a challenge.
