66-88 MHz MX1000: Useful?

I just bought a lot of Motorola HTs. One of the radios in the lot is an H42 MX1000 -- the crazy 66-88 MHz split.

Are these radios good for anything here in the US? Has anyone succeeded in hacking them down to 6 meters? (Or up to the 88-108 broadcast band?) Or just I just turn around and sell the thing?

No real use. Ive never heard of anyone getting it down or up for that matter out of band. You may be able to use it for parts. MX1000 software is not the same as Saber. I dont think MOL even has it listed anymore since its not domestic. It might be intresting to see what the modules are in it for research sake.

Are you able to determin what kind of band split is has exactly? There is atleast two versions , 66 - 84 and 74 - 88MHz.

As Andreas wrote, there are some users in Europe. Here in Finland there are some users on 67-72MHz band like Voluntary Search and Rescue and other groups of that sort.

The radios actually haven't arrived yet, I was just wondering what to do with it when I got it. I don't know what split it's on.

It would do well as a receiver or scanner for 72mhz. In my area there are several systems that still link on these frequencies.
