it's a decent radio but i think you will get tired of it real soon and want a 1250 with a display after a couple weeks. are you looking to get a new or used one and what freq range? new they are the same price but used vhf usually goes for more than uhf. and used you can get a 1250 for about $50 more and it's well worth it. (in my opionon)

Agree with Jeff on the bump-up, 16 ch. vs. 128 + that very useful Alpha Display. If you're looking for VHF N9LLO has a couple in the FS/FT column at a very fair deal.

Now that I think about it, you guys are probably right about getting a 1250. I am looking for a VHF and used if possible. Do you guys know of any places to look for used ones? Thanks!

the batboard is a good place to start. Look for the latest revision ones you can, the latest firmware and hardware that is. Later Waris/Pro series have a blue gasket around the battery contacts and frame.

there okay, not as nearly as robust as the Jedi series but you'll have hours of fun with the 1250 and signalling options. the LS versions only support 18 conventional modes. The 1550 XLS is the crem de la crem...stored voice and huge display.
