Spectra audio problem

Post by RonJeremy »

At power up, my Spectra is very loud (volume). In the RSS the minimum volume adjustment is set to 1. I have no control on it with the front buttons. I can set it higher (sound and numbers work) but it does not affect the audio from the speaker :(

Any ideas?

Tks!

What radios do you own?: Spectras, Sabers, MCS/MTS2000

Look on the command board for leaky capacitors. The leaking electrolyte may have eaten through (or shorted, because the electrolyte is conductive) a trace that controls the volume setting going to the audio amp (the chip that bolts to the chassis for a heat sink).

If that's the case, you need to remove the command board, remove the caps, clean the board by submerging it in isopropyl alcohol (99%, available at electronics stores), install new caps and reinstall.
