MTS2000
Hi, I have myself a MTS2000 I wish to reprogram. Now a friend of mine (who runs a radioshop has the RSS R6.04 for the MTSX series radios), according to the RSS which I'm (assuming is the newest version the RSS for that series of radios) cannot be read with this version of the RSS as the codeplug is apparently too new.
Would it be possible to not have to use CPS to program this radio? Can I feed a DOS RSS codeplug into the radio (if so someone have a codeplug for a Model I 48ch top-display MTS2000, model H01RDD9PW1BN)?
P.S: I belive the firmware on this radio is version 5.42.

The latest DOS RSS version is 6.08.00, and it is fully compatible right up to CPS version 1.13.00. Motorola then skipped up to CPS version 2.00.01, which then renders your radio too new for even RSS 6.08.00. There are very few radios floating around out there right now which have been programmed with CPS 2.00.01, so using RSS 6.08.00 should solve your issue.
The other option is to find an identical codeplug (model & flashcode) saved with an earlier RSS version and clone it in...no LAB required.

Is that possible? Would be wonderful... By the way, I found that the firmware in my radio is R5.44. Anyone got a codeplug I can try that matches my radio? I'll give the clone idea a shot, as I got access to Lab (and have backed my radio up with the method listed on the MTS2000 page)...Wicho wrote:What if the flashcode and model number are the same, but the firmware version is different? Can you still use a codeplug from a radio that was last programmed with RSS and clone it into a radio that was last programmed with CPS?
Now that I think about it, would it be possible to program in the S-Record of a identical model, with the same flashcode that was programmed using a older RSS say R6.04 or R6.07.
Umm...no...as I have already used Lab on it, so I know for a fact if I change the codeplug and/or unpack the codeplug it will "ToolProof" the radio. I have used lab to back it up. (I know the backup/restore process works, because I purposly "ToolProof"ed it 3 times.)RESCUE161 wrote:If you use lab on that radio, you are going to Toolproof it. Shoving in another srecord is going to give you the same results - Toolproof...
Best thing to do is call Motorola and order the updated CPS for it.
Well heres some interesting information to those of you with a MTS2000 series radio and need a newer copy of RSS.
Heres what you need to try:
a) Back your radio up thorughly in Labtool (using the method described on the MTSX batlab page)
b) After backup, load one of the records and unpack it
c) Save the codeplug normally (at this point we're done in Lab)
d) Goto R6.04 or R6.07, load the codeplug written by Lab and resave it in the normal RSS.
e) Verify the Radio Programming History (the firmware version should be blank)
e) Restart RSS to clear any loaded codeplug
f) Try to read your radio using normal RSS (yes it will complain that the codeplug is too new, disregard this)
g) Load the codeplug you saved earlyer
h) Reverify the Rado Programming History (the firmware field should now have the firmware of your radio)
i) Clone the currently loaded codeplug into your radio
j) Attempt to read the recently "cloned" radio using RSS.
If you screw anything up in the steps above and it doesn't work, just use the Lab tool to restore from the F01/93 you might encounter. And try again.
I now have a radio that once didn't read in R6.04 with the error "Codeplug is too New for this Application", after this process I can read and write the radio with no problem.

- What radios do you own?: Too many!
Well, you must have a special "un-toolproofable" radio, especially since it's above the toolproof cut-off... All I was trying to do was save you from screwing up your radio. It's not my MTS2000, so do what you want.gatekeep wrote:Umm...no...as I have already used Lab on it, so I know for a fact if I change the codeplug and/or unpack the codeplug it will "ToolProof" the radio.
