I have a Maratrac with one of the clamshell heads. The part number is faded but it's something HCNx034 with x being indistinguishable. This head has a volume control, an 8 position mode control, and a 2 position zone control. As received this radio was programmed with 16 modes. Am I correct in thinking that Modes 1-8 correspond with Zone A Channels 1-8 and that Modes 9-16 correspond with Zone B Channels 9-16?

Correct the head is HCN4034 16 Mode, and HCN4033 is 8 Mode Scan.
Accually both heads are the same except the logo/escuctcheons, the radio programming determines the action of the A-B switch.

Oh cool so that's what they meant on the Batlabs Maratrac page when they were talking about the heads being electrically the same.
I love the audio of these radios. Loud too. How many watts is the audio output?

Depends on which speaker you are using.
10 watts into the 3.2 ohm speaker HSN4020A.
