Hi all,

As you guys know, there are more than few different aftermarket RIBs available on Ebay.

After all, most of them are based on original Motorola RIB RLN 4008, but which of these aftermarket ribs would you recommend in regard of compatibility and reliability?

I'm not sure if it is needed to bring each RIB picture or the seller nicknames from Ebay to this forum, since most of them are easily found in Ebay search on any given moment.

There's two rib models I'm interested, one is the Rfguys miniature rib (discussed on the Batboard previously) and other one is with aluminium casing sold by "createsales". Any experiences anyone?

Not sure about those, but I have what you'd call a "Micro" RIB as it fits inside on a 9-Pin to 25-Pin shell (pretty small). I've had it for a while now - at least 6 years and it has never given me a problem with any radio. Even the MCX1000s and Sabers seem to like it - maybe even love it...

I now have a genuine Motorola RIB, but I find that I still use the Micro-RIB more often. I wish I could remember who it was that I bought it from. It was someone on Ebay. It has surface mount components and you have to plug in a 9-Volt battery into the side of it, but it is very well built. I replaced the cheap 9-Volt connector with a heavy duty one so it would last longer.

If couldn't find one, my first pick would be a Sandy Ganz RIB. I have heard nothing but good things about them.

Yep, pretty much. No LED on mine though. This is an old pic. I've changed the crappy 9 volt connector out with a good one.

stay away from ANY with leds that dont have an external power source. the led's pull away from the data current.
