Mystery connector...cant find

I was tearing a console apart the other day in a cruiser and was disconnecting some coax and noticed a PL259 connector screwed on to maybe a scanner or CB, cant remember...

anyways, it looked a little different because it didnt seem to have the center conductor soldered as usual...so i went to screw the barrel off, and realized it was some sort of adapter screwed on top of a female mini u connector?

maybe these are more common in other areas, but i had never seen one before.... i couldnt seem to find a part number on it, and i flipped through tessco today trying to find it with no luck...

anyone seen one of these or know where to get one?

its basically an adapter froom mini u female to male pl259...

thanks...

They are interesting little connectors, good to put on the back of a Maxtrac to make it a PL259 without having the skinny delicate section like a normal adaptor, then you put a UHF barrel to make it a SO239. Awkward to get it tight, and to remove though.

It was a CB K-40 adaptor, (the end of their coax had a mini-U female on it.
K380 is the part number, I believe.
It came with an allen wrench.

i cant find these in tessco...

who makes them?

i would love to have a few...

i freaking suck at soldering on 259's...i can do any other connector in my sleep, but i still manage to short these things out every once and a while...

Just put;
k40 k380
in your search engine (google).
Not sure who makes it, but lots of folks seem to have it.

Take a look on Tessco again, search for part #s 25133 and 44203 (same thing, different manufacturer), see if those are the one's you want. They have a female mini UHF on one side, male UHF (PL259) on the other.

On a longshot, http://www.pasternack.com over 200 pages of connectors.
If you have no luck above? They will mail you a catalog! Its like 7" x 5" in size.

thanks for all of the help guys, but i cant seem to find it anywhere but places that sell CB's and antennas...

JackHackett,

this is a totally weird connector...i have many of the ones you posted the part number for, but sometimes i find those difficult to get on or off on maratrac drawers...

this connector is hard to explain....

you crimp a female mini uhf connector onto the coax, and the pl259 will screw on to it, just like it would screw into a reducer barrel for like rg59, but instead it has a pin that goes into the female mini uhf connector...

i wish these were more availible cause i know i would have a bunch...i absolutely hate soldering on pl259's to lower diameter coax...i still manage to screw them up somehow...

thanks again

I used to use the part on the left on Spectras/Maxtracs before I started making my own cables. These things still come in handy on the bench though.

The FME style is nice, makes it easier to route a cable around inside a vehicle before screwing the connector on.

Well, that is sort of an odd bird..

You can try the 83-910-RFX here:
http://www.amphenolrf.com/s3.asp?pr=Ada ... enderA=Pin

Or the RFU-645 here:

http://www.rfparts.com/mini-uhf.html

I don't quite see why these would be any easier to get on/off than the ones I mentioned earlier, only difference is the gender of the mini-U. With the others you just screw the adapter onto the radio first, then screw on the male mini-U.

Another alternative would be crimp on PL connectors, those are as easy as crimping on a mini-U female.

RF Parts carries them. Check out the last adapter (RFU-645) on this page and see if it isn't what you're looking for.

Jackhackett, that's my fault for not actually reading the links you posted. Duh!
