QC II and the XTS5000

I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has investigated how to program XTS5000 portables for QC II paging.
My usual practice is to have a separate channel on F1 freq and tone, with QC System set as "signalling" and no scan. I set the option for entry into the channel in muted condition, and usually use the auto reset w/carrier option set at about 30 seconds. To date has worked fine on every model of portable I've tried.
Until today. So far as I can tell, the XTS5000 does not permit entry in the muted condition, but requires the operator either to push a button programmed as "VMUTE" or to invoke a menu item entitled "VMUTE." Otherwise, the user will hear all dispatch traffic.
OK, maybe my guys could live with that, but when I programmed a side button for "VMUTE", while the software took the program and declared no errors, and it appeared to write to the radio with no errors, the button simply booped (no function) and radio continued to hear dispatch traffic. OK, I say, maybe the programmers haven't gotten around to the button function yet in the firmware, so I reprogrammed the button to "Unprogrammed" and added a menu item for "VMUTE." Again: no errors on file save and no errors on file write. But the radio set to the channel in question does not show a VMUTE menu item.
I would be delighted if someone who has encountered and resolved this issue before me could point out what I am missing.

In order for Vmute to function, you need to go into the conv personality QCII tab, select Call Alert Decode and In Call User Alert Enable. If you have Selective Call Decode checked, Vmute will not work and you will get that error tone that you are describing.
When Vmute is activated, the monitor speaker will show up on the display with a line through it (if it's a M2 or M3). You will also get a very distinct tone when it's activated. Hope this helps somewhat.

Also forgot to add.... Your radio must have firmware R08.00.00 or higher for QCII to function.

I got the first part of that: Call Alert Decode and In Call user Alert were both checked; Selective Call Decode was unchecked, but no joy.
I expected a display indication of the muted condition and did not get it.
As for firmware, the radios are quite new, but I'll check to see the number. I guess I expected that if the radios' firmware wouldn't do QC, that screen would have been greyed out and QC would not have been a "Signalling" option.

Yeah, it almost sounds like a firmware issue to me. The QCII features and tabs will still show up in the CPS even if the radio has older firmware in it. I bet the firmware might be the issue then if the radio is just giving you the error tone for Vmute and no display indication.
As long as you have a QCII system assigned to a conv personality as a receive signaling system, and the other talked about options are selected, it should decode.

I too have an XTS5k M3 I am wishing to get QCII working on. I have host version 8 and CPS9; I have Call Alert Decode and In Call user Alert checked, QCII set as the signaling method and the QCII lists populated with the tone outs I want. I programmed a vmute button in CPS and when pressed on the radio it lets me select on/off; when toggled to on I get a speaker with a line through it.
The problem is it isn't decoding the tones; i.e. the radio stays muted even though the two tone call frequencies are correct. Any ideas what I am not doing right?

If I purchase the RSS software from motorola, will it come with an updated firmware for my radio? If not, where can I get the updated firmware for my radio?

I have it. And it looks good to go. But, I need my cable back to get the codeplug out of my radio to compare to be sure. But I think you hit the nail on the head... he's in Wurtsboro. And waiting for the random times that tones go off to test it isn't going to work reliably. It's already been determined that he can't hear Thunder, Eldred, Elk or Tennanah from where he is.

Not good to go.
He's got the call list set up for QC2 Paging/TX. The systems are not set up for the tones that he wants it to alert to. So the reason it's not going off is because the radio isn't seeing the tones in the system it needs to alert for.
First in system 1 set up the tones you want it to alert to...
Then go to the conventional personality that you want this to alert to. In signaling set the signaling for Quick Call 2 and the system you have set up for that personality to alert to.
Then... go to the Quick Call tab and tick off Selective Call Decode, set the muting for "AND". With that... you should be good to go.

No; Depot/MSS ; if the radio doesn't have tags and Moto doesn't have the serial number in their database, prepare to be disappointed in all likelihood.
I presume your talking about an XTS, in which case you need Astro 25 CPS, latest version is 9.

Thanks JAYMZ, i'll have a look a look at the codeplug tonight and swap it around, I presume for two tone alerts I simply need A/B. not A/B-C/D.

I have read and done what you guys have said about this topic. However I can not get the vmut on my model III. I have Host/Dsp 9 in this radio. This radio is also FPP could this be the reason why?

Make sure QCII is set as your RX signalling type for the correct channel that you want to use QCII on.. Make sure your QCII tab looks like this:
V-Mute should work fine if the radio is set like this...

I have been following this and tried several things, r11.00.01 firmware, system is set, tones are there vmute works fine, but will not decode. my mts works like a charm but cant get this to play correctly. Any other ideas? Thanks

as it has been stated many times in other posts R11 Host/DSP has many problems with it. Get your radio upgraded to R12. Mine works just fine with R12.
