R-100 Programming help

Post by n2pdq »

I have a UHF r100, and when I try to write to the TX side, it comes up with a validation error. I'm able to read it with no problem, and look at the info, but not write. I can read and write to the RX side with no problem. Any thoughts????

In most cases, that problem is cause by a bad/corrupted EEPROM. The rss is detecting a wrong checksum when trying to write it, and errors out.

One way to fix the problem is to get an EEPROM reader/writer that works with that specific EEPROM in the R100. Once you read the EEPROM, you correct the CRC & Checksum. Once this is corrected, write it back to a new EEPROM. Stick the new and corrected EEPROM into the R100. Now you'll be able to write the repeater with the RSS.

I forget what EEPROM is in the R100 (actually 2, one for RX other for TX), but memory tells me that the EEPROM reader/writer needed costs under $500 and the software needed is free from Gordon Valaski. You'll also need a hex editor, and you can find it for free too!

Something else, the RX EEPROM and TX EEPROM are "married", so you can not take a good TX EEPROM from another R100 and put in in the defective R100. You have to swap BOTH EEPROMS.

Good luck :)

BAD EEPROM..
Replace the EEPROM, which is no longer available from Motorola.

Is this a VHF or UHF R100? I may have a replacement.
