I read in another thread that the 3000 is no longer produced. Is that correct?

If it is, how much longer will it be supported?

Am I better off looking (again) for a 2500, or for general use, will a 3000 be ok? I've used my last portable for about five years, is that a reasonable lifespan for a 3000?

Only ships for VSELP customers, so yes for most purposes it is cancelled. Supported thru 2011, via depot repair and parts availability. Lots of decent used and NOS ones out there though, so I wouldnt be discouraged only becuase it is not a current product.

Yes, I would go toward a 2500. It has turned out to be a very robust radio. If you need secure capability be sure do to your homework. First generation that shipped did not have secure capability.

Discontinued last December IIRC.

M ususally supports their products for 7 years after discontinuation.

The 2500 is a decent radio, I think the 5k is a little better built.

If you 3k is still working, I would just continue to use it until it is unrepairable. Unless you have that new radio bug.

FWIW, we still have 10 year old MTS's in the field..... that work.

right now I am using a HT1000. Decent radio, but not nearly enough channels, and when I travel to teach, its' a pain in the ass to guess the frequency and tone and program it before I leave.

I got some end-of-the-year money, and decided to upgrade.

I was looking for a 2500M3 UHF that will do 440-470, and I *thought* I found one. Now I am looking again, and I see a lot of the 3000's on eBay in a price range I can deal with.

So, I came here and hit the search function. I don't see paying 5-600 minimum for a radio that is discontinued. That's why I asked. I'd buy a Saber III, but all of my accessories are for a HT1000, and my VHF is non-moto but uses HT1000 accessories, so I am going to try and stay in the XTS family for now.

I appreciate all the input!

While not a currently sold product, the 3000 is still a current radio. There isn't anything the average radio user would need that a xts3000 can't do.

Unless you need FPP, 850 modes, 256 Bit AES encryption or the slightly wider version of the R split 380-470 the 3000 will do everything you need.

So, a 3000 won't support the Q52 or 53 flash? Welp, that includes it out.
