beta 112R delay.... kinda odd.

I just installed a Whelen Beta 122R siren in my vehicle, controlled by 1 SPDT switch for off/wail/yelp, and 2 momentary push-button switches for man/airhorn. What I found to be rather odd (maybe becuase I havent used one of these before) is that whenever I activate the siren, there is almost a 1-sec delay from when i close any switch to when I hear anything. All other Whelen sirens have had no delay that I have seen.
Has anyone seen or heard of this before? It seems to be unaffected by any DIP settings, and I double-checked my wiring, all wires are sized appropriately, good crimps everywhere, and no real voltage drop at the siren amp.
Sidenote.... This is in a 97 Grand Cherokee, which is a BIG PITA to install stuff in, it seems. No room to speak of, really... But it seems to be working out, so if anyone is interested I'll post pics at some point.
