XTL & XTS 800 MHz radios no ID display

For the ones using the XTL & XTS 800 MHz radios on Smartnet trunking type II, have you noticed that the ID display does not work?
These radios were made with the intention of not supporting ID display anymore.
To this date they only support "digital ID display" which is not compatible with analog systems at all.
Supposedly Motorola will be releasing new firmware in December and to have that option we will have to pay $70.00 per radio (NO WAY!!!)
Radios shipped on or after December 2006 will have analog ID Display.
What is not clear if that is going to be an "a la carte" option.

We have to be vigilants during rebanding with the radios with RB package.

I asked Motorola product group this question:
If a full featured XTL5000 and / or a full featured XTS5000 cannot do analog ID display, what is going to happen with the RB radios?
The RB radios are less featured, supposedly to be comparable to analog spectras.
They were not able to answer me the question in a very large meeting in front of other Motorola customers.

As I understand it you can get conventional analog ID display like MDC1200. I am currently getting the flash upgrade for my XTS5000 to allow this to happen. I thought I had read on the board that analog trunking would not be supported and I am pretty sure digital conventional and trunking are both supported. Maybe some of the more experienced XTS folk can comment.

I believe it is control head dependent. I know the control heads that look like A-5 or A-7 Spectras will not display PTT-ID.

As for MDC1200 both the XTL and XTS will do it.
In reference to analog type II Smartnet trunking none of the XTL or XTS radios will do ID display.
They can page and do private call but if you have a list will not display the list or will not display the actual raw ID.
Motorola did it on purpose, I have tried ordering radios will every option enabled, such as Smartzone, Omnilink operation, P25, ID display, etc and they do not do analog ID display on type II trunking.
Product support will always try to discourage with silly answers or they ask you if you know how to program the radios and lots of answers to wear you out.
When I say that they did it on purpose is because they want to push digital systems sales.
I'm waiting until December to see if it is true that analog ID display is going to be supported from then on.
They will have to upgrade me for free tons of radios not doing ID display.

umm.. yeah they will

we have several W5s and W7s in the fleet and all of them do PTT ID in both ASTRO Trunking and MDC

On UHF our XTS3000s will do analog trunked ID, NONE of our 5000s will, astro and MDC works fine on both

on our 800Mhz XTS3000 we do NOT get analog trunked ID display, only astro and MDC.

We have the same issue with our XTL radios, and I found out that ID Display is an OPTION that you must purchase at $75 per radio. Motorola isn't in it for the money, are they?

what im saying is BOTH our UHF and our 800s have Digital ID display... the only thing is the UHFs show IDs in Analog trunk, astro trunk, MDC and conventional astro

the 800s do all EXCEPT analog trunked ID.

i guess they decided to leave that option out of the 800 feature set

I was too general; I meant to say with analog SmartNet trunking.

I'll have to double check, but I think my 800 saber will show analog ID (recent firmware). I'll play tomorrow and see what happens. However, I think the only local system here is a Smartzone simulcast.

PJ, all of the radios i have tried it on have current firmware, thats whats so bizzare to me.

I got boned for a day shift today, so when I get home, I'm going to bed. I'll try for it again in the morning. I do remember turning the snizzle off as it was getting annoying all the time.

My 800 spectra is still out getting looked at, so I can't use that to compare at this time.

Ok, I can confirm that my AS3 will decode and display ID's on an analog SmartZone Simulcast system. A single site Type II will have to wait.

As IIRC, since the entire system is a simulcast, it basically just a large single site Type II as far as the radio's are concerned. I could be wrong (Grem?)

We just got 30 XTS2500s with host version 10. We have an 800 MHz analog Smartnet type II system. They do display the received radio ID.

The first ID received displays fine, HOWEVER if another user keys up during the repeaer hang time, the radio continues to display the first ID. Only by letting the repeater drop between user transmissions will the radio display the correct ID.

Anyone else experience this? Is there a workaround?

Tom

That means the talk-group is probabaly set for Message trunking (not transmission trunking) or the radios are not programmed for PTT-ID. Default in SmartZone is message trunking and I have all of 813A's set for transmission trunking so I can get better call stat's and it reassigns the channel after every PTT, but that is probabaly a different discussion.

To answer your question, I don't there isn't any unless you can convince the Sys. Admin. to modify the setting, but not being an expert on Smartnet I'm SWAG'ing it.

I have XTS2500's with 9.00.01 FIrmware and it display's the ID's as well. Ver 10.00.00 isn't a requirement.

Yes, we are set for message trunking. Can the type of trunking be set differently for individual talkgroups on a system? I thought transmission vs. message trunking was a system wide setting.

I do know that if you set a radio for transmission (or PTT-ID) trunking on a message trunking system, that radio can't reply during the hang time. So, you want the radio programming to match the system setting.

In SmartZone it is a per talk-group setting, I can't comment on SmartNet. OK on the other item, I never tried it because all of out TG's are set for Transmission Trunking with PTT-ID set.

close, its on a per trunked personality setting, but if you only put one TG per personality, then yea same effect. :)

What version is your firmware?

We got version 9 now for XTS, XTL and Astro Spectra + and they do show the ID on the analog talkgroups like they did on the IMBE talkgroups.
