Point taken....

I appreciate your input and concern, George, but the fact of the matter is we are losing one to two Spectra radios a week. I am merely attempting to get these radios back up and running until we can get XTL5000 replacements. It takes time to get these radios ordered, shipped, sent to county radio for programming and back to us. What I was attempting to do was all in good faith; and yes, the officers in our department are my number one concern.

I know it's an officer safety issue if any radio goes south, but all of the officers are carrying portables, and would know what to do in the event that their radio failed. Whether the radios are new, old; repaired with scavenged boards, they can go down at any time for any reason -- new OR old.

Trust me; this wasn't something that I decided to do to remedy our radio problem all on my own. This was approved by veteran high ranking officers, as well as the county communications department.

My intent when I submitted this thread wasn't to rile the masses, but rather to confirm if what we wanted to do was feasible, and would get us by for the interim.
